Interlochen Center for the Arts (ICA), one of America’s foremost institutions for arts education, broadcasting and arts presentations, seeks a Major Gift Officer (MGO).
The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) will grow the financial capacity of the institution utilizing the skills of professional fundraisers. S/He reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Advancement or their designee. The MGO does not supervise any staff members, but works directly and collaboratively with administrative support and other Advancement colleagues. The Major Gift Officer also needs to foster important internal relations with division chairs, faculty and staff throughout the Interlochen campus. It is imperative that the MGO provides exemplary customer service and can effectively represent the institution on- or off-campus.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Direct and engage in prospect management for the solicitation of major (>=$50K) outright and planned gift donor prospects through in-person visits and other relationship-building activities
- Manage a portfolio of up to 120-150 donors and prospects, with a focus on qualifying prospects in targeted geographic regions and programs
- Identify major gift prospects, including working with Advancement staff, ICA colleagues, donors and volunteers
- Manage President’s and Associate/Vice President’s interaction with key donors and volunteers managed by the MGO
- Ensure all strategies, prospect stage information, planned and completed tasks, including contact reports, are recorded in Salesforce
- Maintain an active, current knowledge of the institution, its activities and fundraising needs and priorities
- Coordinate the fundraising contacts that assigned prospects receive by consulting with Advancement colleagues
- Foster and maintain productive relationships with programs and colleagues across the Interlochen campus
Problem Solving/Decision Making:
- Base salary provided
- Major Gift Officers may be eligible for a bonus incentive included in their compensation package
- Lunch on campus is included
- Travel expenses and appropriate costs related to donor management are reimbursable
- Evening and weekend hours are expected during the summer and/or during off-campus donor visits
Knowledge and Experience:
- Developing a clear understanding of a donor’s values and philanthropic interests and priorities, and pairing those with the needs and priorities of ICA
- Ensuring that a balance is maintained between donor interests, effective stewardship and the institution’s commitment toward spending donor gift funds appropriately and effectively
- Prioritizing the donors and prospects with whom they need to spend their time to advance toward and complete successful solicitations
- Setting and achieving a vision for donors and prospects; determining and implementing strategies for cultivation and solicitation of donors and prospects for annual, special and ultimate gifts that are outright and/or planned
- Planning work schedules strategically, allowing for effective and cost-efficient on-campus and off-campus donor and prospect visits
- Requires a bachelor’s degree.
- 2-5 years of major gift fundraising experience preferred.
- Will consider relevant professional experience.
- Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Requires computer proficiency, with a skill set and aptitude for entering, interpreting and tracking donor data
- Requires the ability and willingness to travel
- Appropriate, professional attire is expected.
- Adherence to summer Camp uniform policies is mandatory while on campus
- This is a campus-based position with traditional office hours that can be adjusted based on donor meetings and travel demands. Will consider remote office arrangement.
